PROJECT BRIEF

Thorndon Park’s unparalleled playspace, celebrated for its diverse birdlife, Designed by JPE Design Studio, this space offers multifaceted play opportunities tailored for all ages and abilities.

Four sculptural bird structures, symbolise the park’s rich avian heritage and provide distinctive activities ranging from waterplay to climbing. Additionally, a parkour space, developed in collaboration with the South Australian Parkour Association (SAPA), adds a dynamic dimension to the park’s offerings.

Upheld by the Reggio Emilia principles, the playspace places emphasis on creative play and storytelling. Designed to cultivate environments that bolster interaction, autonomy, exploration, curiosity, and communication, these spaces are meticulously crafted for both children and adults, promoting collective exploration.

The commitment to local sourcing and engagement bolsters the environmental and economic ethos. Every element and contribution makes this playspace a paragon of sustainable, inclusive, and imaginative design.
