PROJECT BRIEF:

Constructing all hard and soft landscaping elements on the project, a part from the steel arbour structure, Deep Green Landscaping has delivered a tranquil outdoor venue for University staff, students and the wider community to pause, meet, reflect and yarn. The Curtin University Indigenous Learning Circle, also known as the Yarning Circle, is a transformational learning and education space that will provide on country and integrated learning experiences for students, staff and visitors.

The project consists of a large six-tonne canopy constructed by thatch-work. The canopies thatch-work roof design creates a dappled lighting effect and provides a safe and shaded area for activities to take place in. Located underneath the structure are two arc-shaped rammed earth seating walls, coloured with earthy oxides that compliment the surrounding native colour palette. The native plantings featured on the project were carefully selected to harmoniously blend in with the surrounding environment and complement the undercover structure. The design of both the canopy and earth walls were crucial to the project and in collaboration with the landscape architect, the finished result is a natural and organic outdoor area for students, staff and visitors to meet and take part in outdoor learning experiences.

Overcoming challenges with existing tree root systems and excavation depth limits, Deep Green Landscaping has constructed an outdoor venue that ties in with the surrounding environment through thought-full design decisions and high-end finishing touches.
